A Special Fresh 48 Session Out of Town
Two days ago, I had the privilege of photographing my second-ever Fresh 48 session—and it was such a memorable experience! Not only was I excited for the chance to capture another newborn’s very first hours, but this session was a little different because it required a two-hour drive out of town. Honestly, I was stoked for the road trip! With music blasting and a Red Bull in hand, I hit the highway. A little traffic slowed me down, but I still managed to arrive at the hospital right on time.
What made this session extra special is that I had photographed this mama’s maternity photos just a short time ago. Walking into the hospital room felt like reconnecting with a friend. Seeing her transition from glowing mom-to-be to holding her beautiful baby girl in her arms was such an emotional and heartwarming moment.
We started with portraits of just the baby—tiny fingers, soft details, and all the sweetness of her very first hours. Then we moved into photos of mom and baby together, dad joining in, and finally the whole family. Every interaction was filled with love, and capturing those first tender moments felt truly priceless.
As a photographer, every session teaches me something new, and this one was no exception. I experimented with fresh angles and different perspectives, and while hospital lighting can be tricky, it challenged me to be creative and intentional with each shot. Most of all, I left grateful—not just for the photos, but for the friendship and trust this family has given me.
After wrapping up, I enjoyed a peaceful drive home, reflecting on how thankful I am for opportunities like this. Fresh 48 photography holds such a unique place in my heart—these are the fleeting, raw, emotional moments that deserve to be remembered forever.
