Family Session at Pine Flat Lake | Laughter, Candid Moments & Christmas Memories
This family session was hands-down one of the most fun I’ve photographed. I had previously worked with this family a couple of months earlier for their daughter’s high school graduation photos, so when mom reached out again asking if we could do Christmas and family photos while they had relatives visiting from out of state, I immediately said, absolutely — let’s do it.
We chose Pine Flat Lake as our location, and it could not have been more perfect. The lake, the open space, and the natural scenery gave us the best backdrop for a session that was all about togetherness, joy, and letting loose. From the moment we started, the laughter did not stop — and I’d be lying if I said I didn’t cry at least once or twice from laughing so hard right along with them.
What I loved most about this session was how relaxed and open everyone was. We came up with so many fun ideas on the spot, captured countless candid moments, and really allowed the family to just be themselves. One of the highlights was doing the classic awkward Macy’s catalog–style poses with the entire family. Every time we set one up, we’d take the photo — and then immediately burst into uncontrollable laughter afterward. Those moments alone made the session unforgettable.
Along with the silly, playful shots, we also captured beautiful, heartfelt family portraits that they’ll cherish for years to come. These weren’t just photos for Christmas cards — they were memories. Some images were perfect for sharing with extended family, while others were simply for giggles, laughs, and remembering how much fun they had together that day.
Sessions like this remind me that family photography doesn’t have to be stiff or serious. It can be joyful, chaotic, emotional, and full of laughter — and honestly, those are the sessions that end up meaning the most. I’m so grateful I got to be part of this family’s time together, especially with loved ones traveling in from out of state.
This shoot will always stand out to me — not just because of the beautiful location, but because of the genuine connection, laughter, and memories we created together.
