Western Engagement Session in the Rain | Moody, Romantic & Unforgettable
This session will go down as one of my absolute favorites. I had the honor of photographing a Western-inspired engagement session for a longtime friend of mine and his fiancée — and from the moment we started planning, we knew it was going to be magical. The forecast predicted rain, and instead of rescheduling, all three of us got excited. A moody, rainy, Western engagement session? Say no more. That is completely my vibe.
When we arrived at the location, it was pouring. I showed up in a thick jacket, rain boots, and a camera ready to face the storm. The couple arrived just as excited as I was, fully embracing the weather and the moody, dramatic energy it brought. We did two outfit changes — classic Western tones, hats, boots, and all — and the rain fell exactly how we hoped: soft, cinematic, and absolutely beautiful.
Yes, shooting in the rain brings challenges. But it also brings something you can’t pose or recreate: raw atmosphere, emotion, and movement. The droplets, the reflections, the wind, the closeness — it all made the photos feel like a scene from a Western romance film. When I delivered the gallery, the couple told me it was everything they imagined and more.
This session reminded me why I adore Western photography and moody tones. It was emotional, authentic, adventurous, and full of moments you just can’t plan. Hands down, one of my favorite shoots I’ve ever done.
